Stringing Popcorn onto Artificial Christmas Trees

A great tradition that you can start with artificial Christmas trees is to make your own garland out of popcorn that you string yourself. Believe it or not, this has long been a tradition, as it dates back several years. It was once the way that people decorated their artificial Christmas trees and real trees as a way to decorate that was cheap. While you may be able to buy all types of garland these days for little to nothing, it can still be a great tradition to start with your family.

So, how do you string popcorn onto artificial Christmas trees? It is super simple, and almost everyone can join in on this tradition.

Step 1: Pop the corn.

You are going to find that you can use any type of popcorn that you want. However, we would recommend using popcorn that is not salted or buttered. This way, it is going to be pure white when you hang this onto the tree and looks amazing!

Step 2: Inspect the popcorn.

Once the popcorn has cooled, you will want to remove any burnt pieces. Then you need to look at the shape of the popcorn, you will find that the best popcorn for this purpose is those that are flower-shaped.

Step 3: Let the popcorn sit for a day.

You will find that if you let the popcorn sit for a day or two, then it is going to be easier to thread rather than break after trying to thread this. You will even find that you can add in some drops of food coloring to the white popcorn if you want something a bit more festive and let it sit for a few days.

Step 4: Pick a thread.

You can use regular thread on stringing this popcorn garland. But, you will find that using dental floss or even fishing string is going to be the best option. This is hardy and will hold up well throughout the month of December.

Step 5: Get needles with a large eye.

You need needles with a large eye on them to thread the needle, you will find that you can get one without a really sharp point for those who are going to have their kids helping with this task.

Step 6: Start making!

Now that you have everything ready to go, simply thread the needle and start poking this through the middle of the popcorn. You will want to keep stringing this for as long as you can without breaking the string.
